Register on-line to guarantee a spot and your supplies or drop in to make a simple lantern to carry in the procession that gathers in David Lam Park at 6:30pm. Lantern can be made in as short as 30 minutes but come early as supplies may run out .

The Gathering Place

The Gathering Place will host a day of celebrations with free food, live music, last-minute lantern making and other activities. At 6:00pm there will be a short procession to Emery Barnes Park to join the big procession to David Lam Park and the Roundhouse.

These three lantern processions each start at 6:00pm and move along the seawall or through historic Yaletown to converge in David Lam Park by 6:35pm. Led by the drums of Tege Fo Collective and the samba drums of Bloco Energia, the processions are welcomed to the park with a spectacular fire performance by Radiant Heat.   See route map below.

A free family event, with some ticketed venues. Suggested donation of $5/person gratefully accepted. Everyone who gives a donation or purchases a ticket to either Labyrinth of Light will receive a solstice button!

Once again the Roundhouse hosts a stunning array of indoor festivities, with simultaneous activities and performers throughout the venue. Attend the Opening Ceremony at 7:00pm and get introduced to all the performers so you can make your choices.

Gorgeous lanterns created by artists Joey MallettNaomi SingerGlen Andersen, and community members are displayed throughout the Roundhouse. Check out the amazing Lanterna Magica created by Ari Lazer in the Exhibition Hall.

THE SECRET LANTERN GARDEN 7:30 – 10:00

For those seeking quieter pursuits you can sit beneath the giant Tree of Life in the Secret Lantern Garden and enjoy a meditative sound journey created by Naad with rare and beautiful instruments from all over the world.

SOLSTICE PLAY ROOM 6:30 – 9:30

Participate in an on-going artwork throughout the night and create your own shadow stories against a gorgeous hand-painted silk cathedral created by artist Carmen Rosen, or make your own solstice head-wreath from organic materials - $5.00.

DANCE STUDIO 7:30 –9:30

Roundhouse Community Dancers have been working with choreographer Julie Lebelle for almost three years and have developed a multi-layered shadowy magical performance especially for winter solstice.

OUTDOORS 6:30 –9:30

Traditional English music and dances by the Tiddley Cove Morris Dancers.

LABYRINTH OF LIGHT 6:00 – 11:00

Take a meditative journey through the Labyrinth of Light created with over 600 pure beeswax candles by artist Gregory Byrne, with music by Lori Bella and her crystal singing bowls.

To ensure a space in the Labyrinth and to minimize wait times, it is strongly recommended that you purchase your TIMED TICKET online. 

Make your timed ticket selection and click the "Purchase" button to be taken to the Picatic secure site to complete your transaction. All sales are final.

Please arrive at the labyrinth 15 minutes before your scheduled time slot.

$7.00 - Advance online ticket sales end Dec 20, midnight. Ticket price includes credit card  processing fee. Ticket purchases are non-refundable. Children under 13 FREE. Please visit on-site box office for complimentary tickets for eligible children.
