The Gathering Place
The Gathering Place will host a day of celebrations with free food, live music, last-minute lantern making and other activities. At 6:00 PM there will be a short procession to Emery Barnes Park and then continue directly to the Roundhouse. Please note: there is no fire performance in David Lam Park at 7:00 PM; the fire performance has been moved to the Roundhouse Turntable at 9:30 PM
A free family event, with some ticketed venues. Suggested donation of $5/person gratefully accepted.

Warm up inside the Roundhouse with delicious food from Ianna's Kitchen and a wonderful array of diverse performances and music.
SOLSTICE STAGE 6:45 - 9:30
Join MC Wayne Stewart at the Opening Welcome and enjoy masked music from the British Isles by Sospiro Misterioso, powerful First Nations songs and dances by One Arrow, and energetic African drumming and dancing with Jacky Essombe and the Makalas.
THE SECRET LANTERN GARDEN 7:00 - 10:00
Sit beneath the gorgeous Tree of Life lantern amid giant flowers as the musicians of Naad take you on a sound journey with instruments from around the world.
SHADOW forest 6:00 – 9:30
Play in solstice shadows and create your own forest creatures with Mind Of A Snail!
PIN-PRICK LANTERN WORKSHOP 6:00 - 8:00
Make a simple lantern from a tetra-pack in about 20 minutes to carry in the procession at 8:00 PM. Preregistration highly recommended.
LANTERN PROCESSION 8:00 - 8:30
Take your lanterns outside and follow the Tiddley Cove Morris Dancers over to David Lam Park and back on a gentle procession to light the darkest night. There will be surprises!
NATURE LANTERN WORKSHOP 6:00 - 10:00
Enjoy guitar music by Joaquin Gonzales as you make a lantern for your home using pressed flower petals, twigs and leaves. Takes approximately 2 hours. Preregistration highly recommended.
Solstice Skies 6:00 - 9:30
Enter the inflatable planetarium and explore the night sky with community astronomer Bill Burnyeat and learn about the winter stars.
LABYRINTH OF LIGHT 6:00 – 10:30
The labyrinth has long been used for meditation, prayer and sites of ritual in various cultures around the world. Created with over 600 pure beeswax candles, the winter solstice labyrinth invites you to warm yourself in a self-guided ceremony intended to help release old attachments and envision new possibilities as the darkest night of the year births a new season. Beautiful crystal toning bowl music by Lori Bella.
To ensure a space in the Labyrinth and to minimize wait times, it is strongly recommended that you purchase your TIMED TICKET online.
